The event was opened by Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Pippa Hackett.
Friday 10th November 2023
9.15h to 16.45h, followed by banquet at 19.00h
Mount Wolseley Hotel, Tullow, Co. Carlow
Our 2022 Scholars Pat Collins, David Dolan, Aoife Feeney and Lance Woods delivered their reports after completion of their two-year research and travel programmes.
Attendees heard updates from our 2023 Scholars Bryan Daniels, Margaret Edgill, David Fennelly, Tommy Murray, Liagh Whelehan and Gillian Willis.
We met for the first time our four newly recruited 2024 Scholars.
We welcomed our keynote speaker Amy Jackson, Nuffield UK 2012 Scholar and Director of Oxtale, Issues and Crisis Management Consultant. Amy is a researcher in public attitudes towards farming and challenged us on the theme of Finding Common Ground.
Early this year, we sadly and prematurely lost our pioneering Scholar Padraig Walshe who died suddenly in February. We paid tribute to Padraig and his legacy, with the first Padraig Walshe Award for best returning Nuffield Ireland Scholar presentation. The first scholar to be awarded this prestigious award was Lance Woods. Padraig’s powerful legacy of agricultural leadership was the topic of a fireside chat involving two of his friends Matt Ryan and Matt O’Keeffe.
After the Conference, we hosted our annual Nuffield banquet, where Scholars and Alumni networked with Investor represetatives and other agri-food stakeholders.
