Kevin is the youngest of 11 children. Originally from Claremorris, Co. Mayo. He is a new entrant into dairy farming since 2013 after leasing a farm on a long-term lease in Caherlistrane, Co. Galway. Having milked 72 cows on 36Ha in 2013, Kevin has grown his business to 320 cows and farming 125 Ha in 2018.
While trying to obtain finance for his start-up in 2013 Kevin encountered major barriers as he had no collateral and was very inexperienced. He was declined finance nine times before eventually obtaining a sanction on the tenth attempt. It was because of his difficulty in obtaining funding that he chose his topic, ‘Access To Finance, The Biggest Challenge In Converting The Intangible Into Tangible’.
As part of his scholarship Kevin travelled to USA, UK, France, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Kenya and South Africa.
