Visit of Global Focus Programme to Ireland 8th to 14th July 2015

One of the 5 Global Focus Programme’s will visit Ireland for 6 days from Wed 8th July to Tues 14th July 2015.

This group of scholars began their 6 weeks global journey on 1st June in Australia, where they had 3 days of briefings and high level meetings in Canberra. They then travelled to Singapore (meeting ANZ Bank re Asian agriculture, Syngenta and Monsanto), Philippines (Rice Institute re vital work to improve productivity and eliminate famine), Hong Kong, China (wholesale fruit markets, farms, retail markets, large grain farm, dairy research farms, beef plant, Fonterra and Nestle activities in China, briefings re trade policy and trade negotiations with China) and much more.

Then they travelled to Alberta in Canada, to visit beef farms, feedlots, an agricultural research facility, large potato farm, organic vegetable farm, overview about water policy, technology and agronomy advances and retail markets. Then on to the USA, where they visited Washington State, to see research on soil research, and visits to a variety of farms. They conclude their 6 weeks travel in Ireland, with an itinerary which is organised by the Irish 2015 scholars.

During their visit to Ireland, there will be a BBQ on Friday 10th July, to which other Irish Nuffield scholars are invited. This is an opportunity for our Nuffield Alumni to meet our visitors and fellow scholars. The GFP group will visit Dublin, Tipperary, Cork, Galway, Mayo and Roscommon during their time in Ireland.
